Congressman Dan Ferris is being questioned about the disappearance of his intern, Ilona Waxman. Does this sound awkward? Imagine if he were your dad! Loosely based on actual events, this perplexing and playful study of power-politics throws expectations to the wind and pits perception against reality as a brother and sister search for the truth about their father, who has fallen under suspicion of closed-door sexual improprieties--and worse. And if that weren't enough, things really heat up when Monica Lewinsky arrives on the scene!Parking is available most days directly across from the theater. $5 per car; subject to space availability. Street parking and City lots also within walking distance.Regular Price: $15-$28

Set on the day of the historic Los Angeles million immigrants rights march on March 25th, 2006, Solitude weaves together an emotionally-charged story of secrets, laughter and explosive mambo. When a wealthy Chicano lawyer hosts old friends following a funeral, celebrated in fine Mexican fashion, rancheras are sung, bone-cutting truths are confessed and lives are changed forever. The plot of Solitude was inspired by the themes in the groundbreaking collection of essays The Labyrinth of Solitude by revered Mexican poet, diplomat and Nobel laureate, Octavio Paz. Solitude which Ms. Fernndez created in collaboration with the Latino Theater Company is directed by Jos Luis Valenzuela and elegantly explores love, death, destiny and family through a contemporary and uniquely Mexican lens. In Pazs work, he envisioned his countrymen as hidden behind masks of solitude, torn between concurrent and conflicting indigenous and western cultures. Not fully identifying with either is an experience of isolation. Ms. Fernndez moves Pazs premise into the 21st Century by setting it in present-day Los Angeles, a city more distinctly Mexican in character than any other large metropolis in the United States. Its Chicanos and Chicanas are at once both Mexican and American, not fully being either. In addition to the playwright herself, the cast of Solitude includes members of the Latino Theater Company, celebrated cellist Semyon Kobialka and well-known television actor Robert Beltrn as The Man. A star of stage and screen, Beltrn played Commander Chakotay for six seasons on Star Trek: Voyager and can be seen as Jerry Flute on the current season of Big Love.Free lot parking.Regular Price: $15-$25

Renegade Theatre Experiment in San Jose, CA
This play, darkly funny and painfully romantic, is full of ethical dilemmas. It was written by Lia Romeo, author of RTE's 2010 World Premiere hit Right Place, Right Time.Karen Wilson is a normal thirty-eight year-old womanshe's mourning her mother's death, dealing with an alcoholic sister, has a history of romantic disasters, and holds a fulfilling job as a university professor. Exceptshe has a genetic disease that makes her look thirteen years old. Every man she has ever dated gets creeped out, so she finds herself perpetually dateless. When her sister sets her up with an intelligent, available man who may just have an attraction to younger girls, she faces the dilemma: let him believe she's thirteen, and find a few moments of romantic bliss, or tell him the truth, and risk pushing him away. How does our outward appearance hide our true inner identities? And when the two are so different, how can one woman find a true connection with someone? Don't miss this truly unconventional love story!Advisory: RTE Rating: 13+. This play contains themes for more mature audiences. It may contain some profanity, violence or brief nudity, but these elements should not be too intense for most audiences. That being said, some material may not be appropriate for everyone and we recommend this theatrical experience for audience members ages 13 years old and up.Free lot parking.Regular Price: $25

Crank Collective in Austin, TX
AUSTIN, TexasAs a follow-up to last year's Austin Critics Table nominated production Drone, Crank Collective presents Antarcticawhere unsuspecting cruise ship passengers trapped in the Antarctic battle frostbite, pack ice, and penguins in an exuberant, rock musical tribute to explorer Ernest Shackleton.Antarctica is a story of challenges met and overcome: from the crossing of a frozen continent; to the development of a cold-resistant new species; to the production of an over-the-top musical tribute to Ernest Shackleton.Director John Cecil has again assembled a talented team to carry out his grand vision with unique flair: six professional dancers, two choreographers, five vocalists, a 4-person band, and a cast of six.Audiences will be treated to a wildly entertaining evening, including catchy musical numbers, a choreographed 6-flake blizzard scene, and a finale including the complete cast and 6 professional dancing Menguin. For the set design, Crank Collective is creating a dark, WWI-era look, evoking the pictures and films of the Shackleton expedition.Crank Collective has a history of producing edgy, satirical musicals. In 2011, their production Drone was nominated for an Austin Critics Table Award for Best Musical Production. Their first large production in 2009, the H1N1-themed Epidemic of Fear: The Influenzical, was performed to packed houses of national and international audiences. Insomnia followed with the idea of an Insomnia Patch, which would eliminate the need for sleep. Cecil mocks societys shortcomings in an amusing yet non-obscene way, fitting his many jibes into delightful musicals.
